First time I made this recipe I had spent the whole day swimming with my kids and realized when we got home at 3 that I needed to have dinner ready by 6:00 when the husband walked in the door. This dinner totally pulled through for me and my husband was shocked that I had made the sauce from scratch! I love Chinese and Asian dishes, especially made at home so it was no surprise to me that I loved this dish the first time I tried it. You have got to try this recipe!
Crockpot Chicken Tips
Should I cook frozen chicken breasts in the crockpot?
I personally don’t prefer doing this but it can be done. If you are going to cook this recipe with frozen chicken cook on low for about 8 hours to make sure the chicken is all the way cooked.
What is the best thing to serve with crockpot teriyaki chicken?
I love to serve rice with this recipe as a side dish. You can absolutely serve it with fried rice or Chinese noodles as well.
Can I add veggies or fruits to crockpot teriyaki chicken?
Absolutely! I love serving grilled pineapple with this recipe! You can also add stir fry veggies into the crock pot the last 2 hours of cooking to make sure they don’t get too soggy.
Steps to Make Crockpot Teriyaki Chicken
- Place chicken in a crockpot.
- Mix in a bowl sugar, soy sauce, vinegar, ginger, garlic, pepper. Once mixed together well pour over chicken. Cook on high for about 2 1/2 hours (or until chicken is cooked all the way through)
- Remove chicken from crockpot and cut in slices (as pictured above)
- Mix cornstarch and water in a small bowl.
- Put the remaining sauce in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Slowly add the cornstarch mixture and continue to stir until sauce is thickened.
- Put chicken over steamed rice and drizzle sauce over the top. And drizzle even more if you are addicted to sauces like I am!
