The BEST French Dips

The BEST French Dips

French Dip Sandwiches are simple and easy for a weeknight meal in minutes

The other night I was in talking late with a few of my best friends.  The conversation morphed into talking about dinner and meal planning. I am huge on meal planning. It has become a habit of mine that now is just natural. I figure out my meals Sunday night. I look in the fridge to see if there is any meat or creams or vegetables that need to be used and then make my meals according to those. Then I order my groceries from Walmart Grocery Pick Up and every Monday at 9 am after I drop off my daughter at preschool I head to grab my groceries. To keep my sanity, have my meal planning down to a science and I spend less than $150 a week. I cook dinner 5 nights a week (Sunday my mom cooks and the other night is date night), I cook breakfast 4 times a week, and lunches 3-4 times a week for my husband and I. Yes, I cook ALOT!

Once you have meal planning down to arrange different recipes that need the same type of cheese or creams or meat and you spread your ingredients out. The only thing with meal planning is I rarely buy extras. I buy and use what I need. Which my husband loves but sometimes I don’t as much. If a craving hits I either go to the store or put it on the menu for the following week.

So back to the conversation I had with my friends the other night. We were taking about our go-to recipes that I have more often then others. French Dips were one of them. We probably have them twice a month. Which is a lot for me. I rotate meals almost monthly. Lets my kids try new foods and me try new recipes. It works great for us but would probably stress a lot of people out! haha

French Dips only have a few ingredients and I know my family will eat them. We also have them for lunch as well. My husband works from either the home or the office depending on how his work calls are. So I am serving him lunch about 3 times a week. So these get thrown into our lunch rotation as well! Here is the recipe. If you could really call “assembling” a recipe haha

Here are the steps to make the perfect French dip right at home

  1. Grab one loaf french bread and slice in half (long ways). Then take the softened butter and spread along the entire loaf all the way to the edges.
  2. Take 3 cups of water and place in a saucepan over medium to high heat. Then slowly add the Au Jus Gravy packet. Whisking it.
  3. Take the roast beef slices and dip each one in the Au ju. Then shake off the access liquid and lay on the loaf of bread. Complete until the entire loaf has a slice of roast beef on it. Then top with a slice of provolone cheese.
  4. Turn the oven on broil and pop into the oven until cheese is bubbly and melted.
  5. Pour the Au Jus Gravy in small bowls.
  6. Remove french dip from the oven and put the two sides of the bread together to make a sandwich. Then since and serve with the bowl of au jus.
