Country Fried Steak
Country Fried Steak
Comfort food like country fried steak, is there anything better?! There is nothing like a plate of southern style food to bring all the feels.
My son Remington loves steak. Of all kinds! But the one thing I have a harder time doing is finding new ways to serve steak rather than just grilling or pan searing it. Enter….country fried steak!
I try hard to have a variety of proteins or meats each day. Part of this is to introduce my children to new styles of food of all types. Each of my children have gone through periods of times where they are picky eaters. I have realized that how to overcome picky eaters is by introducing and re-introducing them to the same foods that they like in different forms.
Since Remington prefers steak I decided that instead of making my buttermilk chicken or my southern pork chops that I was going to serve this Southern Fried Steak instead. It is similar to those meals that I know the rest of my family will gladly enjoy but adding steak into the mix. And it was a success. Remington tried a new dish, served a new way, and liked it!
How to make Country Fried Steak
- In a shallow baking dish mix together flour, cayenne pepper, onion powder and paprika.
- In a separate shallow baking dish whisk together eggs and water.
- Then in a cast iron skillet heat up some olive oil, enough to cover the bottom of the skillet.
- Then dip the beef cubed steaks in the egg wash, then the flour mixture, then place them in the skillet over medium heat. Cook on both sides until done
- In a saucepan melt the butter and then whisk in the flour to create a rue.
- Then slowly while whisking add the broth and milk.
- Then season with salt and pepper.
- Serve the gravy on top of the southern fried steak over a bed of mashed potatoes.
