One hour French Bread

A few Sundays ago I was making lunch and wanted a bread to go with my chicken madera. I didn’t have much time and all I had was what was in my house. So I whipped up this french bread! Not only did it take one hour but it made two loaves so I was able to use one that day plus turn the other one into french bread the next day.

I am not going to lie I grab the bakery bread at my grocery store all the time. It is so cheap and I use it from garlic bread, cheese bread, pizza boats, or a favorite is french dips. But since that was not what was going to happen that Sunday I was able to whip up my own and I am so glad that I did! It was a super easy bread (a great one for those of you who don’t make bread a lot of feel like you aren’t good enough) this is a great bread to start! And a yummy one for that matter!

One Hour French Bread

Ingredients

  • 5 1/4 cups white bread flour
  • 4 Tablespoons sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 heaping Tablespoon yeast
  • 5 Tablespoons oil
  • 2 cups warm water around 115 degrees F

Instructions

    1. In a Bosch or bread mixer add dry ingredients. Then add oil and water. Mix for 2 minutes.
    2. The dough should be really sticky. If it is not add a little bit of water. Then mix together for another 5 minutes.
    3. Spray a little cooking spray on your cookie sheet and place your dough on it.
    4. Knead it for about 30 seconds to smooth it all out. Once it is all smooth divide it into two pieces to create the 2 loaves.
    5. You can make them round or into regular french bread loaf shapes like I did.
    6. Then take your knife and make a few knife slashes on top. About 1/4 inch deep.
    7. Cover with a thin dish cloth and let rise for 25 minutes.
    8. Turn on your oven to 350 degrees F.
    9. Bake loaves for 25 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven and brush tops with butter.

  1. Is there a difference in white bread flour and white all purpose flour? I’ve made french bread years ago, it tasted good but its different from the loaves I buy from the grocery store. I want my texture to be more like the grocery store

  2. I make all my own bread but I didn’t have time to do my usual recipe so I tried this after seeing you post it in IG before, definitely my new go to! Way better than my previous recipe! Not that I’m surprised, every recipe I try of yours is amazing!
