Tips + Frequently Asked Questions

How Do I Know The Oil Temperature?
  • Not all of us have a handy-dandy candy thermometer for times like these, but luckily there’s a trick as old as cooking to test your oil temperature! Stand a wooden spoon upright in your skillet. If the oil bubbles around the bottom, then floats up, your oil is ready! There will be a ton of bubbles if your oil is too hot, and little to none if it’s too cool.
My Chicken Looks Perfect On The Outside, But Undercooked On The Inside. What Happened?
  • This is a classic mistake that took me many times to fix. Most likely, your oil is too hot. Turn down the temperature and try a new piece.
How Can I Store Buttermilk Fried Chicken?
  • Use an airtight container and keep in the fridge. Your chicken will keep for 3-5 days.
Can I Air Fry My Chicken Instead Of Frying It?
  • Yes! I like to spray both my air fryer and chicken with a little bit of cooking oil, then bake it on 350 for 15 minutes. Don’t forget to flip it halfway through!
What About Cooking My Fried Chicken In The Oven?
  • While I’m all for switching the traditional frying for an air fryer, the oven does not work well with this recipe. The golden brown crust will never get that crunch you’re looking for.
