This recipe is a spin off from my amazing chocolate bundt cake recipe but it has a cute Halloween theme to it. If you haven’t made this cake yet, it is the perfect chocolate cake for any occasion. The frosting is AMAZING and with the Halloween decorations on top it makes it taste even better! This Halloween cake idea can even be made for different holidays using other colors and toppings! Halloween Cake Idea

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 1/2 t salt
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 t baking soda
  • 1 cup oil
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup hot water
  • Icing:
  • 1 cup granulate sugar
  • 1/4 cup cocoa
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup margarine
  • 1 t vanilla
  • Toppings:
  • Green food coloring
  • Halloween sprinkles
  • Edible eyes

Instructions

  1. Combined cocoa, sugar, salt and flour. Then add the oil, buttermilk and eggs. Mix well and then add the water. 
  2. Put in a greased and floured bundt pan and bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. Remove cake from pan while warm and not hot.
  3. To make the icing, boil all ingredients except vanilla in a saucepan for 1 to 2 minutes. Then remove from heat and add vanilla.
  4. Stir until cool or thick enough to stick on caked. Then put on quickly or it will get too thick.
  5. Pour all over the top and put tons of topping on it!

  • Halloween sprinkles

Chocolate Bundt Cake

  1. This is so cute! Do you omit the cocoa from the icing if making it green? Or will it still dye cute with the darker icing base?

  2. The ingredients listed baking soda, but the instructions do not, so do not forget to add the baking soda! The frosting is too dark to add food coloring, So I got a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting- it was yummy, but I really wanted green frosting- I did not have time to make batch without cocoa in the recipe.
