As a beginner cake baker, I can only do easy cake recipes and this red velvet cake is perfect! This recipe is delicious and easy to accomplish that anyone can make it, I promise! Red velvet cake always seemed difficult to make and now that I have mastered this recipe I cannot wait to start making it for birthdays. It was so much easier than I thought it would be and it tastes even better than it looks! Follow along for step by step instructions below!

How to Make a Red Velvet Cake

  1. First, add all of the wet ingredients, including red food coloring.
  2. Add all of the dry ingredients.
  3. Mix well and put into 3 round cake pans and bake at 350° for 30 minutes.
  4. Frost when cooled with Cream Cheese Icing and top with chopped pecans.

  • 2½ c. flour
  • 1½ c. sugar
  • 3 tsp. cocoa
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vinegar
  • 2 c. oil
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • Red food coloring
  • 1 oz. water
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
